You know that if you’re interested in protecting your oral health, you need to brush and floss your teeth regularly. But would you be surprised to learn that there are a number of things that many Americans could actually do better when it comes to brushing?
To start, many people don’t buy the ideal toothbrush. When you choose your toothbrush, you should buy one with a head that fits in your mouth comfortably. You should also choose a brush with soft bristles, and buy a new brush every few months. You see, if you use a brush with hard bristles, you could actually damage your teeth. You should also brush softly, as hard brushing can also hurt your pearly whites. We recommend brushing for two minutes at a time and moving your brush in a circular motion. If you move it up and down, you could scrape and damage your gums.
Furthermore, when you brush your teeth could also be important. While most people recommend brushing and flossing when you wake up and before you go to bed, did you know that you shouldn’t brush right after you eat? For about 30 minutes after eating, your enamel can be softer than normal. If you brush during this half hour, you could actually damage your teeth.
